Links With The Community
Through its wide network, the Centre is linked to the community in the following ways:-
♣ It has 1,180 members, some of whom use the services regularly, while others are supporters and friends of the Centre
♣ The Centre has gained an excellent reputation and as a result many organizations, agencies and private professionals refer clients to the Women’s Community Centre. It has 300 women’s and general organisations on its mailing list including doctors, primary schools and kindergartens, community organisations and government agencies.
♣ The Centre regularly receives referrals from doctors, health centres, Centrelink - Norwood and Modbury branches, Women’s Information Service, Women’s Health Statewide, Volunteering SA, Drug and Alcohol Council, Mood Disorders Association, Rehabilitation Services, CentaCare, Catherine House (Women’s Shelter), Counsellors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Eastern Mental Health, Eating Disorders Association, YWCA of Adelaide, Eastside Job Agency, ASK Job Agency, Wesley Uniting East, Domestic Violence HelpLine. Many of these organisations and professionals refer their clients for counselling and courses to promote self esteem and mental wellbeing by alleviating their isolation and loneliness. Carers and support workers accompany women to the Centre to assist their involvement in group activities and to help them build social networks.
♣ Women contact the Centre after seeing our advertisements in the Messenger Press and telephone and other community Directory listings.
♣ Women who have used the Centre encourage others in their personal networks to use our services.
♣ The Centre also belongs to the Community and Neighbourhood Houses Association (CANH) and SACOSS.
